Georgian Para fencer Gvantsa Zadishvili and Italy’s Luca Platania-Parisi claimed the first World Cup golds of their careers on Thursday (20 November) in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Former French fencer Platania-Parisi, now competing for Italy, just edged his new teammate Emanuele Lambertini in an incredibly tense and close tie in the final of the men’s foil category A.

Platania-Parisi delivered a 15-14 shock against Lambertini, the 2023 world champion and 2025 bronze medallist.

Türkiye’s Hakan Akkaya left with bronze, his first medal in foil this year. Neutral Para Athlete Maxim Shaburov secured the second bronze.

Georgia’s Zadishvili secured herself a place in the final of the women’s sabre category A by beating Paris 2024 silver medallist Kinga Drozdz of Poland.

In the final she faced teammate Nina Tibilashvili, also a Paralympic medallist. It was a tough final with little to separate the pair but it was Zadishvili who was on the best form on Thursday, surging to her first World Cup gold with a score of 15-13.

Drozdz and Great Britain’s Gemma Collis were the bronze medallists.

Italy’s Ionela Andreea Mogos grabbed her second World Cup gold of 2025 in the women’s sabre category B.

Mogos got past Neutral Para Athlete Anastasiya Kastiuchkova in the final. Another Neutral Para Athlete, Kristina Fiaklistava, claimed bronze alongside Georgia’s Irma Khetsuriani.

In the men’s foil category B, Italy’s Michele Massa was triumphant against Thailand’s Visit Kingmanaw, who hoping for a win at home but had to settle for silver.

Neutral Para Athlete Alexey Ivaniev and Brazil’s Jovane Guissone were the bronze medallists.

The 2025 Para Fencing World Cup continues on Friday (21 November) with the men’s sabre and women’s epee category A and B. The competition is being held as part of the 2025 World Abilitysport Games.
