World Para Fencing announces call for bids for 2026-2031
14/10/2025
World Para Fencing is inviting World Abilitysport Members and national fencing Federations to bid to host World and regional Championships, World Cups and Satellite Tournaments between 2026 and 2031.
Headlining the drive to set an exciting calendar and build on the growing reach and impact of Para fencing, especially in the years before the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games, are the 2027, 2029 and 2031 World Championships. The 2027 and 2031 editions are set to be qualifiers for the Paralympics.
Also on offer are regional Championships which can take place every year in the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania. These too have the potential to be included in the qualification pathway for a Paralympic Games, alongside World Cups.
Satellite Tournaments are an opportunity to stage an entry-level competition as practice for more significant events, allowing Local Organising Committees to test venues, raise awareness in the local and national community, secure equipment and train volunteers. World Para Fencing is inviting bids for Satellite Tournaments from 2026 onwards.

Alongside competitions, hosts can also choose to stage World Para Fencing training courses in refereeing, classification or coaching, offering more chances to capitalise on a wealth of long-term benefits.
Pal Szekeres, Chair of the World Para Fencing Executive Committee, said:
“This call provides an opportunity, in particular for new hosts, to build their capacity to host quality events over time and expand Para fencing’s reach around the world. Competitions can leave a legacy for federations and clubs, particularly with regards to equipment, refereeing and coaching.
“Organisers could stage a Satellite Tournament in 2026, which has the potential to become a World Cup in 2027 or 2028 before the Paralympics. Then in the years before Brisbane 2032, they could think about taking things to the next level and hosting a regional or World Championships.
“We want to work with organisers to enhance their capacity and reach over time, as we have been doing with existing hosts in the past few years. We have seen the impact that events can have on clubs and communities and believe that there is huge untapped value just waiting to be taken advantage of.”

All comprehensive information, including bidding guidelines and bid application forms, is available on the World Para Fencing website [here].
