World Championships medallists to watch in Solo
12/09/2025
New world champions and podium finishers from the Iksan 2025 Para Fencing World Championships are going Solo from Monday (15 September) at the World Cup in Indonesia, just one week after leaving South Korea.
Here are five faces to follow and watch live at World Abilitysport’s YouTube channel until 18 September at the season’s fourth World Cup.
Saysunee Jana, Thailand
Taking the next opportunity to compete in Asia, especially ahead of her home World Cup in November, Jana returns as the women’s epee category B world champion from Iksan 2025. It was her sixth world title in the weapon since she first stormed the stage in Paris, France, in 2010.
The Paralympic champion is also the world No.1. Jana may be looking over her shoulder at Hong Kong, China’s, Nga Ting Tong, but fans can expect another strong performance from the Thai powerhouse.

Hyo Kyeong Kwon, South Korea
Kwon had become the darling of South Korean Para fencing in recent years, cementing that status last year at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with silver in the women’s epee category A on her debut.
But Kwon has been open about the fact that she has more to give and landed on the podium once again last week in Iksan with bronze.
Three other top ranked fencers will join her in Solo. Great Britain’s Gemma Collis, who has experienced success at the World Cup level this season and is the world No.3, is one. Hong Kong, China’s, Yu Chui Yee and Spain’s Judith Rodriguez Menendez are also in the top five.
Nina Tibilashvili, Georgia
Going into Iksan 2025, double Paralympic medallist Tibiliashvili had never won an individual medal at a World Championships.
That all changed when she claimed bronze in the women’s sabre category A. The Georgian has stayed on in Asia to get as much competition experience as possible in 2025.
Visit Kingmanaw, Thailand
Following in the footsteps of fencers from his country like Jana, Kingmanaw added to Thailand’s Paralympic medal haul last year in Paris and earlier this month in Iksan.
He took silver in the men’s epee category B, matching his finish from the Paralympics.
His appearance in Iksan was also his return to the piste since Paris 2024 and all eyes will be on Kingmanaw to see if he can continue his form.
By contrast Latvia’s top seed Olegs Garkuls-Gurevics has finished on the World Cup podium twice in 2025 and will be one of Kingmanaw’s main challengers in Solo.

The Solo 2025 Para Fencing World Cup runs from 15-18 September and will feature competition in the men’s and women’s epee, foil and sabre category A and B as well as team events.
It is the fourth World Cup of 2025 and follows editions in Sao, Paulo, Brazil; Pisa, Italy; and Eger, Hungary. After Solo, fencers will have the opportunity to close out the year in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, from 20-23 November.
