Thailand ended their home Para fencing World Cup in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, with two gold and one bronze medal from team events on Sunday (23 November).
Fencers competed in epee, foil and sabre in new team formats – to be the first to reach 20 points in mixed gender teams – as part of efforts to keep Para fencing interesting and engaging.
In the mixed team sabre two men – Chitiphat Charoenta and Boonsiri Sanitmuanwai and two women – Paralympic champion Saysunee Jana and Thitirat Penprasittipong, faced Germany in the final.
They put in an impressive performance over four rounds to reach a score of 20-8 against men’s Paralympic title-holder from the category A, Maurice Schmidt, Denise Hutter, Leonie Robinson and Dimitrij Rout.
Hong Kong, China’s Sean Glass, Yuen Hing Kwong, Ka Man Lam and Nga Ting Tong secured a third-place finish against Poland.
Charoenta and Jana then joined forces with Korakod Sangsawang and Duean Nakprasit to claim gold in the mixed team epee against Italy.
Here Michele Massa, Emanuele Lambertini, Julia Anna Markowska and Sofia Garnero felt the full force of a home team on the march.
Jae Hoon Sim, Eun Hwan Ryu, Sunmi Kim and Eun Hyo Cho of South Korea were the bronze medallists, also overcoming Poland for the last spot on the podium.
But Thailand had to settle for bronze in the mixed team foil as Italy rose to the top against France.
Massa, Lambertini and Garnero put in great shifts alongside Ionela Andrea Mogos, the individual women’s category B winner from earlier in the week.
France’s Cassiopee Bourgine, Quentin Fernandez Anssoux, Margot Fourmond and Thomas Tachdijan claimed the silver.
Jana and Pengprassitipong made their third podium appearance with Visit Kingmanaw and Phoopa Sae-Sim after beating South Korea.
The Nakhon Ratchasima 2025 Para Fencing World Cup was the last competition of the year, concluding a season that included a World Championships and four other World Cups. Fencers will now return home to prepare for the start of the 2026 calendar which first stops in Pisa, Italy, from 19-22 February.
Qualification for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games will begin in October 2026 with regional championships in Asia, the Americas and Europe.
