Mogos, Drozdz claim sabre hat-tricks in Bradenton

Italy's Andrea Mogos and Poland's Kinga Drozdz secured a trio of World Cup season wins in the sabre at the 2026 Para Fencing World Cup in Bradenton, Florida, USA on Thursday (28 May).
Securing her third victory in the women’s sabre category B was Italy’s Andreea Mogos.
Her win against teammate Julia Markowska leaves her with a 100 per cent winning record heading into the second half of the season, and the upcoming European Championships where qualification for the LA 2028 Paralympics begins.
China’s Ao Lanzhu and Poland’s Karolina Strawinska took the bronze medals, also delivering strong performances to land on the podium.
Poland’s Kinga Drozdz was the second woman to do the World Cup hat-trick in Bradenton on Thursday, taking the crown in the women’s sabre category. Like Mogos, Drozdz added to her golds from Pisa, Italy, and Budapest, Hungary.
China’s Yuandong Chen and Anna Nadasdy took the bronzes on offer, with both women achieving their second consecutive podium finish of Bradenton 2026 following on from Wednesday’s foil.
Emanuele Lambertini is no stranger to the top three, especially in foil, but the last time the Italian finished on top in the epee category A was in 2022.
That all changed on Thursday as he stormed to victory, even getting past Great Britain’s Paralympic champion and serial winner Piers Gilliver on his way to the final.
There he faced Iraq’s Zainalabdeen Al-Madhkhoori, himself no slouch in the epee.
A close match ensued with the pair exchanging hits and very little to separate them. Lambertini’s winning touch was itself sent to video review at 14-14 as Al-Madhkhoori had landed a touch simultaneously.
“It feels extraordinarily good and incredibly tiring. I was a little bit tired in the final, people might have seen that, I was a bit slow, but ok. The semi-final with my opponent and friend Piers Giller was very tiring but in the end I was able to catch up. Thanks to my coach and friends, I had all the support.”

China’s Saichun Zhong joined Gilliver in third place with both fencers securing their latest medals.
Returning to the piste after a stunning sweep of golds in all three weapons at the last World Cup in Budapest, Hungary, Great Britain’s Paralympic champion Dimitri Coutya was triumphant once more in the men’s epee category B.
However taking on Chitiphat Charoenta was no easy ride for Coutya as the Thai fencer continues to impress. Coutya stretched away for a 15-12 win but few fencers are able to push him that far.
China’s Jie Zhang and Thaland’s Visit Kingmanaw were the bronze medallists.
China’s Yuandong Chen and Anna Nadasdy took the bronzes on offer, with both women achieving their second consecutive podium finish of Bradenton 2026 following on from Wednesday’s foil.
