Iksan 2025 organisers present progress to Para fencing’s Executive Committee

10/06/2025

The organisers of the 2025 Para Fencing World Championships taking place in Iksan, South Korea, from 2-7 September have presented their latest progress updates to World Para Fencing.

Jin Kuk Yu, assisted by Jennifer Choi, International Relations from the Korea Para Fencing Association, the Local Organising Committee, shared their plans for hosting the biggest and most important competition outside the Paralympic Games with the sport’s Executive Committee during the recent World Cup in Eger, Hungary.

These included venue plans, transport and transport schedules, accommodation and broadcast.

The formal presentation follows a site visit carried out by World Para Fencing in April during which all aspects of the organisation were assessed in detail.

Iksan 2025 will be held at the Iksan Stadium, a venue with a hexagonal field of play and spectator seating. The organisers are planning to invite local schools, university students and community groups to the Championships to create an electric atmosphere during the five-day event which will feature men’s and women’s individual and team events in epee, foil and sabre category A, B and C.

The invitation, showing which events will take place on each day, is available to view now.

As well as the logistical and organisational detail, organisers presented the first look at the medal design and mascot which is being kept under wraps whilst they are refined and finalised.

For broadcast an impressive technical set-up is being planned which will feature coverage of all coloured pistes and the finals piste where semi-finals will be contested and medals won. The addition of overhead cameras is also being considered, which would be the first time this angle has been utilised at any Para fencing competition.

Sports presentation is being given close attention with a format similar to the 2022 Asian Para Games being considered, ensuring athletes can really revel in the moment of being in a World Championships semi-final or final.

Pal Szekeres, Chair of the World Para Fencing Executive Committee, said:

“We are very happy with how things are progressing with the organisation of Iksan 2025 and the attention that the Korea Para Fencing Federation is paying to every detail.

“This a huge opportunity to showcase the very best of Para fencing to a local and international audience and give athletes a great platform from which they can show their best. We believe there is no better place than the ‘home of fencing’ in South Korea to take the World Championships to the next level.”

The Iksan 2025 Para Fencing World Championships will take place from 2-7 September in Iksan, which is considered to be the heart of fencing in South Korea.
